Regular Meeting - 146th

The 146th meeting started off with the “silent, warm and smile” from our ASA2 Tok Lee Choo. Opening address by the acting president David Siew led the audience to the theme of “To Give is to Gain” with his office story. The theme of the meeting was further elaborated by the TME, Amy Gan who shared her personal encounter with Mr. Lim who gave up his PhD title but gained from his setting up of a community center. It is true; at times we may need to give up something in our hands in order to grab something new or more beneficial.

In the impromptu speech session, the table topic master, Inn Hoon printed the table topics on her stacks of paper. The session was filled of appreciation as we have topics of “Giving is more joyful than receiving”, “The best gift” and others. The best table topic speaker went to Khor Seng Chin who impressed us with his sharing of view in his topic of “To donate a beggar or not”. We have five speakers, including Chuah Beng Chuan, Tok Lee Choo, Ivy Gam, Khor and Evan (guest) and their performance were “successfully” evaluated by our long time missing member, Chiam Tou Wee, before the timer’s bell rang.

The meeting resumed after the refreshment with “Big and Famous Klang” curry puffs prepared by Mei Lee. The first speaker Francis Vasanthi connected the audience with her title of “Creator and Creation”. As pointed by the speech evaluator, Hong Tat, she has used the vocal variety techniques even though she was only doing her speech #3 (Get to the Point). It was continued with David Siew’s Advanced Speech #1 of Humorous Series with the title of “Those Days During School Times”. The audience was demonstrated with the humorous stories which are composed of five parts: the set-up, the pause, the punch line, the punch word, and another pause. The attendance agreed with the evaluator, Mei Lee when she complimented in her evaluation on the speaker’s gesture to show the teacher’s long hair style, either separated from the centre or slightly beside the center, and the “coordinated” student’s name calling out by the teacher. : )

The new Division Governor Assistant in Marketing, Patrick Lim, CC toke the role as general evaluator afterwards. He was assisted by the timer, Catherine Lim, Grammarian, Khor (with the word of the day – “Contribute”) and Ah Counter, Bin Shan. It was a historical day for Catherine and Bin Shan as today’s 146th meeting was their first time being the Timer and Ah Counter. Good job and good try for both of them. In his General Evaluation, Patric Lim shared his personal feeling of familiar and warm to participate in the club regular meeting as he was originally from Klang Bilingual Toastmaster Club.

The New Members Induction was continued afterwards by VPM, Inn Hoon. Late is better than absence. Ivy Cherng, ACS, ACB made all the way from Cheras to join us in the second part of the meeting even though she was busy with her job. Janet Fernandez came to meet the members as well even though it was late. The meeting finished at 9.45pm, with attendance of a total 16 members and 1 guest.
